The First World War A very Short Introduction

Sir Michael Howard has produced a masterly example of a scholarly precis.  This little book covers all one needs to know about the First World War.  It is written in very readable language and precise style.  There are a few photographs scattered throughout the text, plus some drawings and excellent maps.  Appendix II gives lists of casulties of all the combattants (thought it would have been clearer to interpret if %s had also been included).  This is the ideal book to put in ones pocket and read while traveling for thise who's memory on this subject needs refreshing or the new student.
